About 4-H Ghana
4-H symbolizes HEAD-HEART-HANDS-HEALTH. 4-H is a positive youth development organization that seeks to empower young people. The fundamental principle of 4-H is to make young people self-directing, productive and contributing members of society, through the methodology of “Learning by Doing” 4-H targets the life skills of young people and develops entrepreneurial minds through activity based hands-on programmes.
The concept, which started in the USA in 1903, can now be found in over 70 countries throughout the world. 4-H Ghana is part of the Global 4-H and African 4-H Networks. In 4-H young people select projects in agriculture, food and nutrition, public speaking, art and culture, drama, etc With the support of caring adults serving as volunteers, these young people are guided to complete their projects and learn skills along the way.
The 4-H concept provides experiential learning and income to young people as they go through their project successfully. Established in Ghana in the year 2000, 4-H Ghana provides opportunities for young people to develop their livelihood and life skills. 4-H Ghana is currently operating in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, and Northern Regions of Ghana with over 1100 4-H clubs in various schools and communities.
